About iEd

  • What is Immersive Education Academy?

  • What are the core features / basic components of the iEd program?

    There are 4 main features of the iEd Program: The iEd Classroom, iEd Café, iEd Online, and the Immersion Field Trip.

    The iEd Classroom is an online classroom where students can see, hear, talk to and engage with instructors.

    The iEd Café is a mobile language lab where students can call and listen to class recordings of vocabulary words, stories, grammar exercises and more. To practice pronunciation, students can record themselves and also compare their recording with a native English speaker's.

    iEd Online is the student account that has class handouts, quiz material, class videos, and other learning resources for students. It also has encouragement messages and awards from instructors as well as a forum where students can talk with each other about learning English.

    The Immersion Field Trip is the most unique feature of the iEd program. Students can visit famous locations in North America and Europe and use their English skills in a live situation. Students can even talk with locals on the street and ask them questions about life in that area.
     
  • What kind of programs can I join?

    The main membership members can sign up for is the iEd Academy Academic Program. This program is specifically designed for members interested in learning day-to-day conversational and negotiating skills. This program is perfect for members in school or who are interested in studying abroad.

    There are also other programs that members can enroll in for people who are different ages.
  • Who are our instructors, and where do they come from?

    Here at Immersive Education Academy, we emphasize the quality of our instructors. All of our instructors are native English speakers and are recruited from our supporting network of Universities or school associations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

    You will find that our instructors hold a Masters and/or PhD in Education, English, Speech Therapy, Linguistics or a related field. This is part of our missions and vision to give our students access to some of the world's highest quality education and educators, no matter where they may be. 

    Below are some examples of our instructors:

    Mike Taylor

    Mr. Mike Taylor is an American and a PhD Candidate in English at the University of British Columbia where he also teaches academic writing. Mr. Taylor holds a Master’s Degree in American Studies, and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Brigham Young University. Mike has taught and tutored English as a second language at the secondary and post-secondary levels throughout Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and the Pacific Islands. Mike holds a certificate in university instruction and has developed and taught university level literature and academic writing courses, workshops, and teacher training seminars. Beyond the university, Mike has also developed online academic and ESL writing courses with over 900 total registered students. He has also received a number of research and writing awards, has presented his research at the most prestigious language and literature conferences in the world, and has published his research in some of the leading academic journals in the field. Mike is currently the founder and chief editor at The Writing Consultants, a company dedicated to helping students and professionals better express themselves and their companies in English. Overall, Mike is passionate about developing and teaching courses that encourage generative student-to-student interaction, invite critical thinking, and ensure English mastery in order to help students take advantage of the prestigious academic and professional opportunities open only to advanced English speakers. 

    Bryce Taylor

    Bryce Taylor is an American and a PhD candidate. He currently holds a master’s degree from Ruprecht-Karls Universität Heidelberg. His bachelor’s degree is from Utah Valley University. He has submitted a lot of publications in Brigham Young University, University of Birmingham and San Diego State University where he has been making speeches over the past few years as well. In addition, Bryce has been invited to make speeches at San Francisco State University and the University of College Cork. Bryce is also a serving member of the American Congregational Association. Bryce is passionate about ESL and spreading English to others. Bryce has been teaching English in Universities for many years and most of his students have become fluent speakers through his instruction.

    Carmela Toews

    Carmela Toews is a Canadian and holds a Masters and PhD from the University of British Columbia in Linguistics. Carmela has spent years teaching at the University of British Columbia in the fields of linguistics and speech therapy.  In addition to her ESL and teaching experience in Universities, Carmela also has experience teaching secondary school ESL in Canada. Carmela has spoken at a number of education conferences in North America and has publish a variety of linguistics and education related articles in journals and papers. 

    Bryan Banker

    Bryan Banker is an American who is currently a PhD candidate from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität-München. He holds a master’s degree from Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and a bachelor’s degree from Westminster College. Bryan has taught English at a number of his Universities and secondary schools. Bryan has been invited to speak at a number of academic conferences all over the world. Having travelled to more than 30 countries, Bryan is familiar with different cultures of the world and different problems that ESL students face, which it easier for him to teach English as a second language.

  • What are the computer requirements for the iEd Classroom?

    System Requirements

    Windows support

    • Intel Core2 Duo CPU 2.XX GHz or AMD processor. (2 GB of RAM recommended)
    • JavaScript and Cookies enabled
    • Active X enabled and unblocked for Microsoft Internet Explorer (recommended)
    • Java 6.0 or above

    Mac support

    • Intel processor (512 MB of RAM or more recommended)
    • JavaScript and Cookies enabled
    • Plug-ins enabled in Safari
    • Java 6.0 or above
  • Do I need to install any software?

    The iEd Classroom is supported by Cisco WebEx. The first time that you join the iEd Classroom, you will be asked if you want to use WebEx. If you are asked this, then you should say okay. After you agree, WebEx will install itself and connect you to the classroom.
  • How do I join the iEd Classroom using my computer?

  • How do I use my iEd Online account?

    iEd Online is your member account. Members use iEd Online to enter their classrooms, download classroom material, practice quizzes, access supplementary learning material and more.
  • How to use the iEd Café?

    You can connect to the iEd Café with two methods – Skype and by your regular phone.
     
  • Does it cost money to use the iEd Café?

    Using your mobile phone to call the iEd Café can have a small landing fee depending on your telephone carrier. Immersive Education Academy recommends using a local iEd Café telephone number (if available) to reduce the landing fee.

    Alternatively, members can always use Skype to connect with the iEd Café for free. Please refer to the video below for more information. Operator charges may apply for using your cellular data connection. It is recommended that you use Wi-Fi when you connect by Skype.

  • Can I choose my class schedule?

    When you register for the iEd Program, you can select your preferred schedule. If there is a class during that time, then you can join the class. Class availability is determined by the program students register for and the number of open seats in a class.

How to make payment?

  • What do I do if I can't hear clearly in the classroom?

    If you cannot hear properly in the iEd Classroom, please make sure you are wearing headphones and that your audio is connected correctly. 

  • Why can't I use the iEd Café?

    If you call the iEd Café and hear a message saying you are not allowed to use the iEd Café, log into your student account at www.iedacademy.com and make sure that your phone number and Skype name are correct. After they are correct, try calling the iEd Café again. If your phone number and Skype name are correct, but you are still unable to use the iEd Café, please send an email to info@iedacademy.com.
  • What should I do if I cannot connect to the iEd Classroom?

    There are times when you may not be able to connect to the iEd Classroom. For example, your internet browser does not load, or you receive a connection problem message. If this ever happens you should try and clear your internet browser cache. Sometimes when you visit certain websites, your computer will receive some bad information that inturrupts the iEd Classroom. Clearing your internet browser cache can help solve this problem. Please remember that your internet browser cache is different for different browsers. Whichever internet browser you are using, you will need to clear that internet browser cache. iEd Academy recommends using either Firefox, Internet Exporer or Google Chrome for the best results. 
  • Why won't my browser won't play the lesson videos?

    If you are having problems watching the lesson videos, it might be because some browsers require a plugin to play the lesson videos.

    If you see this message, you should try downloading Adobe Flash. If you already have Adobe Flash, then you should make sure you have the most updated version. 

Our Program

  • What kind of messages will I receive from iEd?

    iEd Academy will send different types of messages to students. They can be reminders, updates, emergency notices or responses to questions. You will receive messages in 4 ways - email, SMS, phone call or through your student dashboard. This is to ensure that you receive all important messages.
  • How do I make sure I receive messages from iEd?

    If you think you are not receiving emails from iEd Academy, please check to make sure your email is correct on your www.iedacademy.com student account. If your email is correct, but you are still not receiving emails, please check your email Spam folder. In the future to ensure that you receive emails from iEd Academy, make sure that your mail browser (Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, QQ, 163, etc.) is set to allow emails from iEd Academy. This way, you can receive all major updates.

Cambridge Assessment

  • Eligibility

    When students register for a program they will be eligible to take an official Cambridge assessment test. This test will help evaluate the student’s starting English level and their improvement over time. Students can take the Cambridge evaluation at the beginning and end of a term to see their improvement. For more information please contact info@iedacademy.com.
